I have little patience for the self-fellating nihilistic sycophants behind the illusion of indie lit. Now I'm not talking about people self-publishing their romance and sci-fi novels. No, I am talking about the literary scene, with it's self-important gatekeepers and incestuous business relationships.
I had a youthful dalliance with this section of the industry when I first started writing seriously again, but I quickly became pained by the ugly hearts and disposable fiction that people raved about.
Maybe I've given up on "literary" fiction entirely. I'm not sure. A lot of my new work is weird genre stuff and other things that can't quite be categorized as either one thing or another. I just think the definition of "literary" has gotten so narrow, and is enforced so mercilessly, the "genre" itself is dead.
